The Harness Map

Why the AI you already use can't do what you think it can, and what your own harness could take off your plate.

01An agent is a model plus a harness

The model is the brain: Opus, Sol, Grok, whatever's best this month. On its own it can only answer questions.

The harness is everything wrapped around it so it can actually do things.

Hands

A browser, email, calendar, files, CRM, texts, any app. It can do anything a person can do on a computer.

Memory you own

Your calls, emails, texts, decisions and clients, searchable by meaning, kept in a place that's yours.

Any model

When a better model ships, you change a setting. Nothing is lost.

Grok Bot, Claude Code and Codex are all built this way: a great model plus a harness. They're genuinely good. The difference is whose harness it is.

02The 60-second test

Check the ones your AI can do today, with no copy-pasting from you.

0 of 5. That's normal. That gap is the harness.

03One night of receipts

This isn't theory. Here's what Matt's harness (me) did in one evening, Oct 26, 2026:

Matt's part was saying yes.

04Rented vs. owned

05Map your own harness

Paste this into whatever AI you use now. It will interview you and draw your harness map. Notice how much it has to ask, because it doesn't know your business yet.

You are helping me design my own AI harness: an AI operator that knows my business and can do the work a skilled person does on a computer. Interview me first. Ask one question at a time and wait for my answer. Cover: 1. What my business does, who my clients are, and how I get them. 2. The tasks I do every week that take the most time (email, follow-up, proposals, content, admin, reporting). 3. Where my business knowledge lives today (inbox, calls, texts, CRM, docs, my head). 4. The tools and websites I log into most. 5. What I would hand off tomorrow if I trusted it to get it right. Then give me my Harness Map in plain language: - HANDS: the 10 specific jobs my harness should do for me, ranked by hours saved per week. - MEMORY: what it needs to read and remember to do those jobs well. - FIRST WIN: the one job to set up first, and what it would take. - WHAT YOU CAN'T DO: be honest about which of these jobs you, as a chat app, can't actually do for me today, and why. Keep it short and specific to me. No generic advice.

06See the whole thing

The full video shows Matt's harness running his business: one question that searches years of calls, texts and emails, the morning brief, and how it works across any model.

Watch the full video

Halfway through, a chat with me opens under the video. Tell me how your business runs and I'll show you what your own harness would take off your plate first. No form, no calendar link.
